Kylie Jenner, professional make-up wearer, has released a make-up tutorial video on her website and app. Unfortunately, only subscribers who pay for access can watch said video, but the nice folks at the Daily Mail UK have done a comprehensive write up, complete with lots of still shots. In the excerpt they have of the video, Kylie plays on her phone and chats with the professional make-up artist applying a whole lot of expensive products to Kylie’s already lovely face.
The bombshell tip of the video comes when the make-up artist applies her skills — and some sort of product — to Kylie’s ears and opines, “Actually, it's a really big tip a lot of people don't do. Because it's really not cute when you're on the red carpet, or you get snapped, and your face is one color, and your ears are different.”
Oh yeah, I totally worry about my ears when I’m on the red carpet. Which is never.
The Daily Mail did the hard work of tracking down prices for the various products Kylie has on her face — and ears — and the retail cost of using them would be $500. This stands in dramatic contrast to beauty tips Ravishly Editor in Chief Joni Edelman and I recently published, where we advocated the use of things like Preparation H ($7.99) for under-eye puffiness and Maybelline Great Lash ($5.99) for eyelashes.
Neither of us had any recommendation for ears, but I’d be willing to take a picture of my earring collection and create a paywall for people to view it if I thought there was a market for it.
The moral of the story is, to look like Kylie, your best bet is have a lot of money, a lot of time, and a professional to put make-up all over your head. Also, be 18.
